Therapy for Patients With High Cholesterol
For people with high cholesterol, there are several therapies that can be done include lifestyle therapy and drug therapy. Lifestyle therapy is a priorities therapeutic before undergoing drug therapy. Lifestyle therapeutic is conducted ​​by low cholesterol diet, exercise therapy and weight loss.


Low Cholesterol Diet
The purpose of this diet is to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol  and triglycerides and also increase HDL cholesterol levels. The principle of low-cholesterol diet is to limit cholesterol intake. In general, it can be said that primarily people get cholesterol from animal foods. Non-animal foods do not contain cholesterol. But it still should be careful when consuming plant foods with high in fat contents because it will still trigger blood cholesterol levels to rise up especially cholesterol.


Dietary Fat Intake
The diet is not only restricting from cholesterol intake but also reduce the consumption of fatty foods. Keep in mind that the human heart can produce its own cholesterol from foods that contain fat. Therefore the intake of foods with high in cholesterol or high fat can raise cholesterol levels in the blood.

Fat contents in food are actually still needed by the body for energy sources. Fat is then distributed throughout the body by lipoproteins. Fat is high in calories and required to dissolve a variety of vitamins such A, D, E and K. Fat in the diet would be in the form of triglycerides and cholesterol. But remember, cholesterol is only found in animal foods not in vegetables.

Based on the types of bond fatty acids, fatty is divided into saturated fatty acids and unsaturated fatty acids. Both types of fat (saturated fatty acids and unsaturated fatty acids) found in animal or vegetable products. However, saturated fatty acids tend to solidify at room temperature. Therefore, saturated fatty acids are more atherogenic or easily attached to the blood vessels that can cause blockages. In addition to solid form, while liquid fats are oils.

Sources of saturated fats generally come from animal fats such as meat (including sausages and beef corned), milk (including yogurt, cheese, and ice cream) and eggs. Saturated fats can also be found from vegetable fat such as coconut oil and coconut milk. The liquid fat (oil) is often solidified by hydrogenation to form trans fats. That trans fats are harmful to health. Fat is easily solidified at room temperature so as to be atherogenic. One example of the trans fat is margarine. Most snacks containing trans fats are not healthy for consumers. By consuming saturated fatty acids will lead to atherosclerosis and increase the risk of the emergence of heart diseases and blood vessel diseases.


Eating the Good Fat For Body
Fat is good if it can increase HDL cholesterol  levels and can suppress LDL cholesterol. Some examples of unsaturated fatty acids that good for the body are omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9. The foods as sources of good fats are nuts (walnut and hazelnut) and fish. Dark green vegetables are rich in omega-6. The foods that contains omega-9 are olive oil, avocado and makademia nuts.


Increase Consumption of Fiber Foods, Vegetables and Fruits
Fiber is a complex carbohydrate that is not digested by the body. Due to can not be digested, fiber has many benefits such as providing a sense of fullness and reduce food portions, preventing gastrointestinal disorders (constipation, hemorrhoids, colon cancer), controlling blood sugar levels. Sources of fiber are vegetables, fruits, nuts and complex carbohydrates (oatmeal and brown rice).


Physical Therapy (Sports)
By doing physical activities are able to burn fat, lower LDL cholesterol  and triglyceride, and raise HDL cholesterol . Thus, it also lowering the risk of heart disease. The definition of sports is a physical activity which comprises stretching stage, training stage and cooling stage. One sort of good sports is aerobic exercises because it involves movements and increases the body muscles.
