Blood Fat Profiles

Examination of Blood Fat Profiles
Knowing the health problems caused by high cholesterol is not only based solely on the grievances alone, but also go through the blood lipid profiles. Examination of the blood lipid profile includes LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and total cholesterol. Before the examination was conducted, the patients are advised to fast for 12 hours beforehand. Fasting should be done to determine the actual levels of triglycerides. After having a meal usually triglycerides rate would higher than as fasting.

Examination of Blood Lipids
Examination of blood lipids should be done regularly or periodically. For people aged over 20 years are encouraged to conduct examinations of this blood fat. If the result of the examination in blood fat was not found any problem, following check-up can be carried out every five years. For those who have problems, so patients need to take some actions to control cholesterol back into safe level.

Examination of blood lipids could prevent patients of hypercholesterolemia from the risk of heart attacks. This early inspection could prevent the emergence of heart attacks later in life. For those who suffers from coronary heart diseases, vascular diseases, smokers, people with hypertension, diabetes, and cholesterol familial are highly recommended to do a blood lipid profile.

The Natures of Fat
Basically, the nature of the fat is not soluble in water. In order to be able transported and distributed through the blood vessels, fat (cholesterol and triglycerides) should be tied with protein. This bond is called a lipoprotein.

LDL cholesterol  is the most widely sort of lipoprotein that transports  cholesterol. When too much LDL cholesterol  in the blood, the risks of occurrence of plaque in blood vessels will be higher. Due to this nature of LDL cholesterol  then it’s called as the bad cholesterol. Whereas HDL cholesterol  works to bring home cholesterol to the liver for subsequent processing. If levels of HDL cholesterol  is low, there will be more fat and cholesterol plaque buildup in blood vessels. Therefore, maintaining HDL cholesterol  levels remain high so that the health condition would remain stable.

When the level of LDL cholesterol  (bad cholesterol) is high then it will increase the risk of heart diseases and blood vessel diseases. While HDL cholesterol  (good cholesterol) will maintain good health and provide protection from heart diseases and the vascular diseases.

To diagnose whether someone suffers from hypercholesterolemia or not is by a blood lipid profiling. This examination includes LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides. Abnormalities in the blood lipid profiles can be:

- Hypercholesterolemia is a high level of total cholesterol in the blood.
- Hypertriglyceridemia is high levels of triglycerides in the blood.
- The combination of the two disorders above are hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia.

From the examination of the blood lipid profiles can categorize a person into normal, high within borderline and high.
